François D'Haene's Historic Record (Sub-3 Days High Sierra Crossing)
2 days, 19 hours, 26 minutes•79.5 mi / day (128 km / day) • Whitney to Yosemite (NoBo)
In October 2017, French ultra-trail legend and four-time UTMB winner François D'Haene shattered the John Muir Trail record, traversing the entire 223 miles from Mount Whitney to Yosemite Valley in 2 days, 19 hours, and 26 minutes. He became the first person in history to break the mythical 3-day barrier on the JMT, overcoming 47,000 feet of vertical climb across legendary alpine passes.
Whatever your pace, duration, or section length: Not everyone is built to chase ultra-endurance world records—and that is the beauty of it! While legends like François D'Haene could fill volumes with their pace, the true soul of the JMT lies in your own personal pilgrimage: your trail family, high-pass sunrises, and your own cadence. Every journey deserves its book.
